The United Bank for Africa (UBA) Sierra Leone, through the UBA Foundation, has reaffirmed its commitment to education and youths’ empowerment as a proud partner of the 6th National Spelling Bee Grand Finale, organized by the Spelling Bee Foundation.
The highly anticipated event brought together sixteen (16) outstanding pupils from across the country, five (5) from the primary level, six (6) from junior secondary, and five (5) from senior secondary schools who competed in a series of challenging spelling rounds designed to test their vocabulary, critical thinking, and academic confidence.
UBA Sierra Leone’s partnership in the event reflects the bank’s broader corporate social responsibility strategy, which focuses on investing in initiatives that uplift communities through education. We believe education is the foundation for national development, a UBA representative emphasized.
Speaking at the event, the keynote speaker, Madam Jestina Patricia Elsie Betts of Orange Foundation, highlighted the importance of corporate partnerships in strengthening educational programs in Sierra Leone.
After multiple intense rounds led by Bee Masters Mr. Alex A. Bah and Mr. Mohamed Cassius Kamanda, nine finalists emerged as winners in their respective categories. Alliza Deen Mansaray, Alusine Bockarie, and Joseph Bobson Sesay took home the first place awards in the primary, junior, and senior divisions, respectively.
The Spelling Bee Foundation commended UBA Sierra Leone and the UBA Foundation for their unwavering support, noting that such partnerships are vital in empowering children and promoting literacy nationwide.
As the curtains closed on this year’s edition, the message was clear, when institutions like UBA Sierra Leone through the UBA Foundation invest in education, the future becomes brighter for the nation’s children and youths.
