UBA Sierra Leone Celebrate the Day of the African Child through Education and Empowerment Initiatives

UBA Foundation and UBA Sierra Leone Celebrate the African Child Day Through Support of ABC Family Annual Spelling Bee, Quiz, and Debate Competition

In celebration of the Day of the African Child June 16th, UBA Foundation together with UBA Sierra Leone supported the ABC Family Organization’s annual Spelling Bee, Quiz, and Debate competition, held at the Bilingual High School in Murray Town on the 14th June,2025. The event, now in its second edition, brought together 25 schools from across the Western Area, offering a platform to test the intellect, eloquence, and academic brilliance of pupils across three major categories.

As part of its unwavering commitment to education and youth empowerment core pillars of its corporate social responsibility, UBA Foundation distributed one hundred (100) “Read Africa books” to all participating pupils. This gesture aligns with the Foundation’s mission to promote literacy and educational development among African Children and youths.

Speaking on behalf of UBA Sierra Leone, representatives from the Marketing and Corporate Communications Department emphasized that the bank remains firmly dedicated to nurturing the future leaders of the Nation. “We believe that education is the most powerful tool to transform societies, and investing in the African child’s day, today means securing the prosperity of tomorrow,”.

During the event, the UBA Sierra Leone took an interactive approach, by engaging pupils in an impromptu quiz session on stage, and also encouraged them to cultivate the habit of saving at an early age, our Direct Sales Executives were on ground to enlighten the kids about the bank’s various digital products and also created an account opening for the winners and other interested pupils and teachers as well. This not only sparked excitement among the children but also strengthened the bond between the bank and its young audience.

The competition itself was a lively and intellectually stimulating event, From the spelling stage to the debate floor and quiz challenge, participants demonstrated impressive mastery of vocabulary, critical thinking, and eloquence. While all pupils were celebrated for their participation, a few outstanding individuals emerged victorious from the different categories:
