UBA Sierra Leone, Supported PAC SL’s Annual Debate Competition and Public lecture, Trophy named in the Bank’s Honor

In a powerful demonstration of its ongoing commitment to youth and children’s development, education, and national integrity, United Bank for Africa Sierra Leone (UBA SL) played a leading role in this year’s Patriot Against Corruption Foundation (PAC SL) Annual Debate and Public Lecture. The event was themed “Contributing to the Fight Against Corruption Through Constructive Debate” and proudly featured the esteemed UBA Trophy.

UBA SL’s Country Chief Inspector(CCI) Mr. Emmanuel Adeloye, delivered a compelling keynote address on the theme: “The Socio-Economic Benefits of Promoting Integrity Within the Banking Community.” In his address, Mr. Adeloye highlighted the far reaching impact of integrity not only in banking but across all sectors of society. “Integrity is the invisible currency of a nation’s economy,” Mr. Adeloye said. “When trust is broken, the cost is carried by every citizen, from families to financial institutions. A bank cannot function without trust, and a country cannot progress without integrity.

Also present at the event was Madam Juliana Kabba, UBA SL’s Internal Communications and Brand Management Officer. In her closing remarks, she emphasized UBA SL’s unwavering dedication to nurturing future leaders through educational and integrity driven initiatives. “Supporting youth focused platforms like this debate is not just a CSR checkbox, it is part of our bank’s core pillars,” she stated. “From our Teens and NextGen accounts designed specifically for young people, to our UBA Cards for teachers and students as well. As part of its support for education and reading culture, UBA SL distributed cartoon of “Read Africa” books to all participating pupils, further reinforcing the bank’s regional “Read Africa” campaign.

Pupils from ten top secondary schools passionately debated issues surrounding integrity and anti-corruption, with Blessing Murad of Bilingual High School emerging as the winner of the UBA SL Trophy. Philip A. Kamara of St. Edward’s Secondary School and Abdul Sheriff Sankoh of Albert Academy secured second and third places respectively.
This year’s debate is a clear reminder that when institutions and youths, unite under a shared purpose, the fight against corruption is not just winnable, it is transformational. And UBA Sierra Leone is proud to be at the heart of that transformation.
