UBA Group Chairman Tony Elumelu met with President Bio at  the  U.S.-Africa Leaders Summit

UBA Group Chairman Tony Elumelu met with President Bio at  the  U.S.-Africa Leaders Summit

President Biden invited leaders from across the African continent to Washington, DC on December 13-15, 2022 for the U.S.-Africa Leaders Summit.

The Group Chairman was very excited seeing the President of Sierra Leone  as they both had an informal chat where President Bio acknowledged the role of the Chairman through the UBA Foundation that provided USD$14 million to COVID-19 relief support across Africa. The donation  provided significant and much needed support to Nigeria and 19 other African countries, by supplying relief materials, critical care facilities, and financial support to the Governments of those countries where UBA has business operations including Sierra Leone.

President Bio showered praises to the Chairman on his Youth Empowerment initiative  through the #TonyElumeluFoundation in supporting young entrepreneurs to growing their businesses across Africa.

The principal rational of the summit, President Biden believes U.S. collaboration with African leaders, as well as civil society, business, diaspora, women, and youth leaders, is essential to unlocking the potential of this decisive decade.

“Africa’s success is the world’s success.” JOSEPH R. BIDEN

The 3-day summit continued efforts to strengthen ties with African partners based on principles of mutual respect and shared interests and values. It also served as an opportunity to listen to and collaborate with African counterparts on key areas the United States and Africa define as critical for the future of the continent and the global community.  The summit built on shared values to:

1. better foster new economic engagement;
2. reinforce the U.S.-Africa commitment to democracy and human rights;
3. mitigate the impact of COVID-19 and of future pandemics;
4. work collaboratively to strengthen regional and global health;
5. promote food security;
6. advance peace and security;
7. respond to the climate crisis; and amplify diaspora ties.
